With breeding season upon us, and some southern hemisphere species already hatched, now is the time to make and prepare your nest boxes. Fresh bedding/substrate in the boxes often causes a bit of excitement, especially as the days get longer.
Waterfowl nest boxes come in a variety of designs, shaped to suit the natural nesting preferences of certain species. From cavity nesters such as tree ducks to ground nesters like eiders, it’s important to have a range to suit all species you keep for the most success. Natural coverage from plants can also provide nesting opportunities and is not to be overlooked.
