Junglefowl
The EJFG or European Junglefowl Focus Group — a taskforce working under the umbrella of Aviornis International and WPA-Benelux.
- conserving the Gallus species and subspecies in their pure wild forms
- undertaking research with regard to the genus Gallus
- providing information about junglefowl.

Ruffed Pheasants
Managing kept birds in a responsible and thoughtful way. DNA research offers future perspectives to use genetic criteria in addition to morphological criteria to distinguish purebred animals from crossbreeds.
Currently includes the P5000 project, ringing and documenting both the parents and the offspring of Ruffed Pheasants. Birds are carefully registered in a database to maintain the greatest possible genetic variation.

Vulnerable waterfowl
Keeping and managing a
a database on waterfowl at risk in captivity.
Focusing on ringing and traceability of pure wild species, excluding colour mutations.
To maintain a genetically viable population, creating a
targeted breeding program with studbook management.

Hornbills
The objective is to try to maintain the number of hornbills in the Netherlands and Europe and to promote the possibility of reproduction by gathering knowledge about these birds.

Eared Pheasants
Focusing mostly on the Brown Eared Pheasant as this is the most endangered species, listed as Vulnerable.
Aiming to work together, not only with Aviornis and WPA-ECBG, but also with European zoos and breeding centres in China.

Peacock-pheasants
Encouraging the keeping of Peacock-pheasants.
Peacock-pheasants occupy a specific place in the pheasant family with specific needs and characteristics.
Some species/subspecies/varieties are endangered in their natural habitat.
To prevent these pheasants from being lost, a buffer population needs to maintained in protected environment.

Turacos
Supporting a unique bird family, consisting of 23 species. Including the subspecies, the entire turaco family is no larger than 38 different birds. The International Turaco Society (ITS) has its birthplace in England and has spread from there to several countries in Europe.

Tragopans
This group maintains an inventory of which tragopans are in aviculture.
DNA analysis is looking at the different species represented, and documentation being compiled for standards, with material from the countries of origin.
The aim is to establish a targeted breeding program to get the original tragopans back into our aviaries. A special ring system with studbook of species purity.

Fireback Pheasants
Recognising the importance that ex-situ populations should only contain species-pure examples, that there is sufficient genetic variation present and that they are managed in a professional manner.
Only then, can an ex-situ project appear credible and offer a chance of success, also in the longer term.

Wild Pigeons, Doves and Small Galliformes
By passing on experiences and information, we aim to achieve optimal care and breeding of our wild pigeons and small gallinaceous birds, with the main aim of building sustainable populations of the species present in a protected environment.
Silver Pheasants
Morphological specimen research to recognise the characteristics of each subspecies. Identify the birds by subspecies on the basis of descriptions of the characteristics of the 15 subspecies.
DNA research in the future?
