Featured in our February magazine, the Corncrake (Crex crex) is a small bird belonging to the rail family. It breeds in Europe and Asia as far east as western China and migrates to Africa for the winter. The Corncrake’s breeding habitat is grassland, particularly hayfields. It is omnivorous but mainly feeds on invertebrates.
Do you keep Corncrakes for breeding or know of other breeders who might possibly sell or donate stock now or after the 2024 breeding season for the Corncrake Project? If so, please contact Trevor Lay, waveneywildlife@gmail.com or mobile 07802 779215.
